Sr. Juliana a sign of simplicity and selflessness:

I came to know Sr. Juliana Xavier Mathalil when I was sent to Stella Maris Convent in 1968.We were together till 1977 when she was appointed as superior in Child Jesus, Trichy. After three years she returned to Stella Maris to teach in the college. We were together again till 1993.

I have known her as a simple, humble, prayerful, hardworking and kind person who was ever ready to help others. She used to spend time in the evenings to help poor children of the neighbourhood in their studies by giving them free tuition. She was ready to help others

P.S. Sister was my companion in SMC community since 1963.

She touched our lives…

In our life journey we encounter hundreds of Teachers, students, colleagues, friends, priests and religious sisters, with whom the Lord allowed us to have some acquaintance for a short while or for a long time. Among thousands of the people we meet, very few leave in us lasting, unerasable impressions or memory by genuine goodness that reflect God.

Sr.Juliana’s presence in the campus of Stella Maris for more than 30 years represented for most of us the presence of God in His love and companionship, goodness and kindness.

Former Principal of Stella Maris College

Juliana a true Franciscan who enjoyed and cared for Nature:

It is with mixed feelings that I received the news of Sr. Juliana’s entry into Heaven, thanks to Sr. Leony for her thoughtfulness in informing me about Sr. Juliana’s critical condition. I am also grateful to Sr. Leony for being with Sr. Juliana during the last few days of her earthly sojourn.

My memories of Sr. Juliana date back to when I was her student in the PUC class in 1963. Sr. Juliana had just then returned from the United States of America where she had gone to complete her higher studies in Mathematics at Boston College. She was young and beautiful with chubby cheeks and a calm, composed demeanor. As a member of the faculty of the department of Mathematics and

Ms. Savithri Sankaran

Former student, staff and HOD of Maths dept.

I am reminded of Kabir Das' Doha which will be a fitting tribute to Sr. Juliana:

“Guru Govid Dovu Khadey Kakey Lagun Pai Balihari Guru Apne Govind Diyo Bataye”

The teacher and god, both are standing in front of me. Whom will I worship first?

It is the teacher through whom I came to know the existence of God.

Sr. Juliana Xavier was my saviour, guru, guide and friend. She was very simple, humble and unassuming. She led a pious and saintly life. In her spotless white dress and a gracious smile on her face, she was none other than the Florence Nightingale of the Stella Maris campus.

I CAN NEVER FORGET THIS LOVELY SISTER IN MY LIFE:

As I sat down to write my love note to my dear Sr.Juliana Xavier who went to the Lord on 3rd August, my cell phone rang with this message on it dated 5/08/2012- 10.24 am, “Thank you for touching my life in ways you never know. My riches do not lie in material wealth but in having a friend like you- a precious gift from God.”

Sr. Juliana Xavier whom every one lovingly called ‘Julie’ indeed has been a precious gift of God to me in my life during the few years I lived in Stella Maris Convent. In 1986, I was called to animate Amirtha Community - so afraid and nervous as I was… there came one night to
